Support Worker / Buddy / Respite Carer (P/T )                                Location:  Cumnock

 

Hours:                  10 Hours per week (initially)     

Mon – Fri 3.15pm – 5.15pm + occasional additional hours tbc

ROP:                     £12.00 per hour

Details

Support Worker / Buddy / Respite Carer (P/T) – required to support a 9yr old boy who has Nonverbal Autism / OCD and Sensory Processing Disorder.  He also has Developmental Delay.

Support will mainly be for school collection each day (Mon to Fri) at 3.15pm until 5.15pm however additional hours (tbc) will be required during school holidays. Support hours are currently under review and may increase in the near future.

Support and encouragement required to for him to take part in activities as well as assistance with personal care.

His interests include swimming and trampolining. He attends swimming lessons on a Thursday – support with this activity will be required … this includes getting him changed and support/safety with him in the community

We are looking for an individual who is young at heart and able to join in activities, ensuring his safety at all times.  He has no safety awareness or concept of danger and may run off therefore you must be alert to this at all times.

It is preferred (but not essential) that you have an understanding of Nonverbal Autism.  He uses Pecs symbols on his iPad to communicate.

Timing prompts must be given on the lead up to planned activities to prepare him and reduce the risk of anxieties.  His anxieties can cause him to lash out at times, therefore patience and the ability to manage this behaviour is required.

The successful applicant will be required to assist on family outings, taking into consideration the thoughts and feelings of his younger sister.  Initially, family will always be present to allow the successful applicant to get to know him and build up a relationship.

They have a friendly dog who is also very much part of the family.

**It is essential that you are a driver with use of your own car, current clean drivers licence and business insurance.

 

Experience / Qualifications Required

Experience of Non-Verbal Autism preferred but not essential

You must be a driver with a full clean driver’s licence, use of own car and business insurance.  Please note that mileage allowance will be paid if using your car for work duties.

 

***This position is subject to a 6 month probationary period.     

Successful applicants will have to provide 2 references (one of which must be your current or most recent employer) and undergo a New PVG Disclosure at the employers cost.
