Post Personal Assistant
to a Child in the Kilmarnock area .

Posts
4 hours per week, on a Saturday (Term Time)
8 hours per week, days flexible (Non Term Time)

Salary
Living wage rate – £12.00 per hour
Job Purpose To work closely and flexibly with a young person who has Autism, to ensure he is appropriately supported to participate in a full range of opportunities in his life and to continue to develop and follow their hobbies and interests.

Employer You will be employed by the family, who will be assisted to administer payroll and undertake the necessary employment support responsibilities by a relevant support organisation.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

You will be responsible for supporting the young person to engage in all aspects of community life and activities as directed by his family.
In and out of the family home, short walks. Swimming, soft play and trips to the shops. Also spending time within the home with the young person doing things they enjoy.
This will vary depending on the young person needs on the day and will be guided by his parents. The young person is non verbal.

Training Training in ASD would be an advantage and knowledge of the condition, although training will be given.

Knowledge & Skills An understanding of how to support and facilitate in a way that empowers the person.
Good interpersonal skills and values reflecting social inclusion.
Excellent and effective communication skills.
Excellent listening skills.
Good organisational skills.
Understands the crucial role that family carers play and the value of their contribution. Working knowledge of good person-centred practice.

Be computer literate with ability to use standard software packages and search engines.

Experience

Can draw on lived experience of positively supporting someone as a peer or similar.
Can engage effectively and work in partnership with others.
Has knowledge of ASD and no verbal communication. Have supported people to achieve positive outcomes in their life.
