P/T Job Description for Support Worker / Driver

The employer is a young man with a physical disability, he lives at home with his family. It is important to recognize that the support you may be employed to assist with will be provided within the family home, therefore confidentiality and respect for the family’s privacy and daily routine is of the utmost importance.  

He is a young man in his 20’s and have Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. It is essential that you have or are willing to obtain knowledge and understanding of the condition.

More info about the employer – Hes a journalist and music producer, he loves hip hop and music generally, going to a lot of gigs, loves football and support Liverpool, enjoys going to the cinema, meeting up with friends regularly, likes travelling around the UK and abroad, gaming. Hes generally a social person who enjoys getting out and about and enjoying life.

Hours on offer – set contract Minimum 10hrs per week, with extra hrs being offered

Wage rate – £12.00

The tasks you may be required to do will vary, according to the needs of the employer and could include the following:

Experience preferred, but not essential. Having a moving and assisting certificate would be an asset.

Essential:

  • Need to be confident drivers, open minded, outgoing, sociable. Generally confident and willing to learn.
  • Have good computer / typing skills
  • Confident driver

Duties would be driving a VW Transporter (small van) mainly in Ayrshire and occasional cities (need to be over 25 for insurance purposes), food preparation and mealtime assistance, typing for me, some personal care to begin with (urinal bottle).

Assisting the employer with moving and handling transfers, using a hoist and more personal care tasks – such as assisting with showering, dressing, meals etc.

Assisting the employer to pursue his hobbies like going to gigs, football, socialising with friends, cinema and generally aiding him to live an independent life style.

Wages are paid 4 weekly in arrears, by an Employers Cheque / BACS Transfer.

This Job Description is set around the employers needs as is the rota and either may change in the future according to his support needs.

There is 5.6 weeks A/L attached to the post pro rata

There is a 6 month probationary period, as laid out in the contract of employment

Vacancy will be offered on the proviso that the Successful applicant will have to undergo a new or update of the PVG disclosure at the employers cost and supply 2 up to date reference contacts.
