P/T Support worker / Companion to a young gentleman in North Ayrshire Irvine Area
5 hours per week / 20hrs in a 4 week period
1 to 2 days per week
Salary
Living wage rate – £12 per hour , plus travel allowance of £1.15 for fuel if you are using your own vehicle as part of your duties of employment
Job Purpose
To work closely and flexibly with a young man.
The family are currently on the lookout for a dedicated support worker to provide exceptional care for an amazing 16 year old boy with Down’s Syndrome.
He has low support needs and we’re seeking someone who can be more of a buddy, accompanying him to his favourite activities like going to the cinema, bowling and trampoline parks.
We’re looking for individuals who posses qualities such as patience, compassion and experience working with individuals with special needs.
Also, if you have a valid driver’s licence and access to a vehicle, it would be a huge advantage as it would allow for more flexibility in outings and activities.
The working hours would primarily be on Sunday afternoons /evenings, with the potential for flexibility during school holiday times.

You would ensure he is appropriately supported to participate in a full range of opportunities in his life and to continue to develop and follow his hobbies and interests.
Employer
You will be employed by the family, who will be assisted to administer payroll and undertake the necessary employment support responsibilities by a relevant support organisation.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
You will be responsible for supporting the gentleman to engage in all aspects of community life and activities as directed by him / his family.
Being flexible is a key component to this job and you will be guided by the gentleman himself about the particular activities he wants to participate in at particular times and you are expected to support his choices.
You will be required to work weekends to support his interests. This will usually be planned in advance.
Being a driver would have a distinct advantage, but is not essential.
You may at times be required to provide companionship in his own home.

Experience
To have previous experience working within the community supporting people to fulfil their full potential and be independent or have personal experience of supporting someone
Have supported people to achieve positive outcomes in their life.
Personal Qualities
The gentleman has a range of interests which are in a table at the end of this person spec. He is looking to recruit someone with some similar interests.
He is looking for someone with a good sense of humour, down to earth, likes a good blether and a bit of banter but is also a good listener
The person should be good at connecting into community activities and making contacts/networks
Wide experience of community activities
