Support Worker / Buddy (P/T) Male Ref: 08/ Ayr /JL Location: Ayr
Hours: 21 hrs per week
Shifts: 3 days over 5 (Mon – Fri 9am – 4pm) JOB SHARE CONSIDERED
ROP: £9.50 per hour
Support Worker / Buddy ( P/T) required to support a young man with Autism and a Learning Disability.
You will provide social support and companionship within the local community, ensuring his safety at all times. The young man is non-verbal however is able to communicate his needs and feelings clearly. He has no sense of danger or road safety therefore must be supervised at all times and you will be required to hold his hand when out. Continuity and consistency are very important to him.
He enjoys being outdoors and going on very long walks therefore applicants must be fit and able to accompany him. He also enjoys swimming therefore you must be able to swim and be willing to accompany him in to the pool.
He enjoys travelling on the bus and has a travel card with the companion element. He usually has a packed lunch with him when he is out for the day however also enjoys trips to local café’s and McDonalds for lunch. He also enjoys attending local clubs.
Some Personal Care required when toileting, including assisting with clothing, buttons and hand washing.
We are looking for an individual who is calm, patient and softly spoken as he is sensitive to loud voices. He is very loving and this will be a rewarding post for the right person who is willing to get to know him and build up a friendship. It is essential that you have an understanding of Autism.
Experience / Qualifications Required
Experience of supporting Adults with Autism and Learning Disabilities required. Guidance, training and initial shadow shifts will be provided by his parents to help you get to know him.
Driver preferred, but not essential.
If you are a driver with use of own car and a full clean driver’s licence, business insurance would be required. Please note that mileage allowance will be paid if using your car for work duties.
***This position is subject to a 6 month probationary period.
