Pay Rate £9.30 per hour plus 5.6 weeks AL Pro Rata

 

Job Description

Are you a genuinely caring, physically active, outgoing person with the ability to be friendly and supportive?

This post is for a personal assistant and companion for a Gentleman who has early stage Alzheimer’s disease. Your role would be to provide support socially to assist the person to attend football matches, reminiscence groups, go for walks and participate in other activities that he enjoys. The Gentleman is physically able however has issues with his memory and cognitive functioning.

Alzheimer’s disease affects areas of the brain. Symptoms develop slowly over years and this progression is different for each individual. Alzheimer’s disease can affect mood, physical movement, self-image and communication with others. …

 

Job Description

You will volunteer to help the person out with things he finds difficult due to his illness.

You will be active and encourage the person to maintain his physical fitness.

You will treat the person as you would anyone else with dignity and respect.

You will support the person to get out of the house, maintain and develop hobbies and interests of his choosing.

You will listen to the person.

You will adapt what you do as required, and be aware of any worsening symptoms.

You will always be patient and kind.

It is important to recognise that the care and support you will assist with will involve going to the family home, therefore confidentiality and respect for the family’s privacy and daily routine is of the upmost importance.

You will be required to work on a flexible basis including evenings and weekends.

You should have a positive, open minded, flexible and friendly personality

Previous experience in a caring role would be advantageous

Post subject to successful reference and PVG checks.

Two up to date Reference contacts are required one of which must be from a present or previous employer. In addition a new PVG enhanced disclosure will be required prior to appointment (disclosure cost to be met by the employer).

 

Probationary Period attached a 6 months to this post. During this period, either party can end the employment by giving the other one weeks’ notice.
