Job Outline – P/T Companion Driver
Support worker companion driver required to assist a gentleman in Largs
To cover between _6 hrs per week, as well as other 6hr workers A/L
Salary
wage rate – £13.15 per hour , wages are paid 4 weekly in arrears
Annual Leave
5.6 weeks paid Annual leave pro rate based on contracted hrs

Job Purpose
To be a companion to a gentleman in Largs, who is in his 50s. He has Frontal Temple lobe Dementia and cannot be left on his own, as would get lost. He lives at home with his wife and the support will be to provide stimulation and social support to the gentleman, whilst giving the Carer a break from her caring role. To get him out and about and try new things
He had a Heart attack in March, still recovering. Due to the type of Dementia this has had an affect on his sight and his peripheral vision.
Due to his condition he doesn’t understand when it’s his turn, if he is in a que and lets everyone go before him.
Employer
You will be employed by the personal employer, who will be assisted to administer payroll and undertake the necessary employment support responsibilities by a relevant support organisation.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
You will be responsible for supporting the person to engage in all aspects of community life and activities as directed by as well as keep him safe.
Being flexible is a key component to this job and you will be guided by the employer ( his wife ) herself about the particular activities she wants him to participate in at particular times and you are expected to support these choices.
you may be required to work in the evening on occasions and the occasional weekend, this will be advised in advance.
You will be required to drive your own vehicle, so must have business use on your car Ins.
Training
Previous experience working with Individuals with Dementia would be a distinct advantage

Demonstrable experience of supporting people to fulfil their potential and have active lives.
An understanding of how to support and facilitate in a way that empowers the person.
Good interpersonal skills and values reflecting social inclusion.
Excellent and effective communication skills.
Excellent listening skills.
Must be reliable
Working knowledge of good person-centred practice.
Experience
Can draw on lived experience of positively supporting someone as a peer or similar.
Can engage effectively and work in partnership with others.
Have supported people to achieve positive outcomes in their life.
Personal Qualities
The gentleman has a wide range of interests which are in a table at the end of this person spec.
He previously did all of these, however with the stage his Dementia is at now, his main focus is Football
He is looking to recruit someone with some similar interests.
He is looking for someone with a good sense of humour, down to earth, likes a good blether and a bit of banter but is also a good listener and a responsible person.
The person should be good at connecting into community activities and making contacts/networks
Wide experience of community activities
Other
You must have a full clean UK driving licence and your own transport
You must have a good sense of humour, be flexible and reliable
The Persons interests are:
Mainly Football
Going out for a drive
Previously he worked in I . T
Likes 80s music
Going for a walk safely
Probationary period
· There is a 6 month probationary period attached to the post
· Successful applicant will have to undergo a new or update of the PVG disclosure scheme and supply 2 up to date reference contacts prior to appointment
