Job Outline

The post is to support a 26 year old female who is chatty and outgoing and is wheelchair bound as a result of cerebral palsy. She has a fur and feather allergy and tries to avoid contact with animals.

Weekly hours on offer: 17.5hrs

This post could also be split to suit 2 P/T posts , either by working one week on for 17.5hrs then one week off or working 8.5hrs per week each

Days of work:       Will be determined by the employers diary

Wage rate:  Living wage rate – £9.30 per hour , wages are paid 4 weekly in arrears

Contract:    Successful applicant will be given a contract of employment setting out the post and A/L, wages, policies and procedures of the post.

Job Purpose

To work closely and flexibly with a young woman who has physical disabilities to ensure she is appropriately supported to participate in a full range of opportunities in her life and to continue to develop and follow her hobbies and interests.

The Employer is the service user, who will be assisted to administer payroll and undertake the necessary employment support responsibilities by a relevant support organisation.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

You will be responsible for supporting the woman in all aspects of daily life including personal care and leisure activities. This will involve support with Washing dressing, meal prep, as well as some household tasks. Getting out and about, including driving to various locations.

Being flexible is a key component to this job and you will be guided by the woman herself about the particular activities she wants to participate in at particular times and you are expected to support her choices. You must also be able to work around the young ladies diary.

You may be required to work in the evening on occasions and at the weekends to support her interest in football. This will usually be planned in advance. You may also be required to do overnight stays on occasion either in the service user’s home or away from home. In this case you will be paid extra

You will be required to drive the woman’s manual wheelchair accessible car at times and you should be willing and able to do this with confidence and support her travelling to various locations, including Glasgow.

Key duties include:

Assistance with personal care as required, support to socialise, support with attending appointments, shopping

Training:     The service user uses a Sara Steady, so may require training if you don’t already have it

Demonstrable experience of supporting people to fulfil their potential and have active lives.

An understanding of how to support and facilitate in a way that empowers the person.

Good interpersonal skills and values reflecting social inclusion.

Excellent and effective communication skills.

Excellent listening skills.

Can take instruction from others

Good organisational skills.

Understands the crucial role that family carers play and the value of their contribution.

Working knowledge of good person-centred practice.

Willing to cover for other staff members sickness or A/L

Experience:

Previous experience working in the Care sector

Can draw on lived experience

Can engage effectively and work in partnership with others.

The employer is looking for someone with a good sense of humour, down to earth, likes a good blether and a bit of banter but is also a good listener.

Other:

You must have a full clean UK driving licence that has been held for 3 years and be over 21 – this is a Mobility Scheme insurance requirement for driving the car.

You must be physically fit as there is a need to support using a Sara Steady and need to lift bags in and out of the car.

You must have a good sense of humour.

You must be a good communicator.

This post is based on the successful applicant/s undergoing an update of the PVG disclosure scheme prior to appointment ( paid for by the employer ) , as well as supplying 2 up to date reference contacts.

There is a 6 month probationary period attached to this post, with a 1 weeks’ notice within this period from either the employer or the employee, if the role is not working out.
