2 Support Workers / Drivers required  —


Post 1 = 25hrs and 1 Sleepover per week

Post 2  =31.5 hrs per week and 4 sleepovers per 4 week period are required. (Sleepovers 10pm-8am set rates)


Rate of pay: £9per hr daytime and 90.00 per sleepover ( 10pm – 8am )

*** you will expected to be flexible around working extra hours to cover for other staff.

MUST HAVE —  Full Drivers licence

Must have previous experience working in the care sector and be a confident / competent driver

The employers are 2 brothers who live in the same household, they are both wheelchair users and both have a muscle wasting condition.

Hobbies and interests:

Both young men are athletes in national Boccia teams which is their main interest. This involves training upwards of 10 hours a week as well as strength and conditioning work, physio appointments etc which takes up most of their week and need support in these tasks.

They also between them like other sports – football, golf, snooker, American football, tennis as well as interests in music – classic rock, alternative, hip-hop.

They like going to concerts / cinema/ socialising with friends and family

With their sporting commitments they do travel around the world and may require support at training camps around Britain in the future.

They both relate and get on well with people within their own peer group

The family are looking to employ a worker to support both brothers over 5 days over 7 per week. This will include mornings / afternoons / evenings and some overnights

Duties and tasks to be undertaken:

The assistance you provide to both young men will vary but will largely involve: – Providing support to both brothers who live in the family home and assist them to have the lifestyle they choose

·        Assisting to use local community resources , such as hydrotherapy pool

·        Assist to maintain relationships with neighbours, friends and family by assisting with social outings

·        Assisting to organise and get involved in recreational activities, to try new experiences, meet new people and broaden his interests

·        Work with the young men to assist them in managing the practicalities of daily living

·        Assisting with domestic tasks such as cooking, cleaning

·        Treat both young men at all times as adults and as individuals, recognising their rights to choose, dignity, individuality, friendship and respect

·        Assisting with personal care tasks ( showering , dressing )

·        Assist the brothers with the activities that they are involved in

·        Be confident to go into a swimming pool

·        Be willing to potentially travel around Britain to assist the boys with their sports – will be discussed at interview

·      Be willing to potentially go on holiday with clients

As part of a team you will be committed to providing the best support to the two brothers. To achieve this , you will :-

·        Work as part of your team to promote the goals of both brothers

·        Work in a consistent manner alongside other team members, developing working relationships

·        Take part in training

·        Be aware of good team communication, using systems in place, including attendance at team meetings

As an individual employee, you will :-

·        Uphold and safeguard the positive image and reputation of both brothers and their family

·        Contribute to continuous improvements of existing ways of working

·        Understand your work in relation to the values and principles of Self Directed Support

·        Contribute to the support and supervision process

·        Be willing to take up training opportunities

Personal Specification

Both brothers are looking for staff that are able to demonstrate competencies and attributes in the following areas:-

·        Competent experienced Drivers with full clean driving licence ( will be driving on the motorway throughout Britain )

·        Be a competent driver, as will be driving a large wheelchair accessible vehicle

·        Willing to undertake training as required for the driving of the wheelchair accessible vehicle – safety

·        Have an up to date moving and assisting certificate, or willing to undertake training (as will be using an overhead tracking hoist and sometimes a manual hoist )

·        Preferably previous experience working in the care sector with young adults

·        An engagement in sport maybe preferable as assisting the brothers with their sport is a regular daily task but this is not essential

·        Must be physically fit, this can be a physically demanding job

·        Reliable and trustworthy

·        Person-centred

·        Flexible in terms of approach and availability for work

·        Able to think and work in a reflective way

·        A team player who can work well as part of a team

There is a 6 month probation attached to this post, with a 1 week notice within this period if the post does not work out.
