P/T Support Worker (Female):   24 – 32 hrs per week     (96 – 128 hrs per 4 week period)

 

Support worker required to support a lady with Relapsing / Remitting Multiple Sclerosis in her own home with all aspects of independent living.  You will also support her on social outings.

 

Hourly rate:      Daytime hours:  £8.25 p/hr              Overnight hours: £8.00 p/hr

 

Applicants must be flexible regarding hours of work and be able to work extra hours in the event of the employer having a relapse as she will require a lot of extra support.  You must also be willing to cover holidays / sickness for the other member of staff.

 

Rotas are set on a monthly basis to cover below hours.

 

Shift pattern:

Monday                  7am – 10.30am (3.5hrs)

Tuesday                  7am – 10.30am (3.5hrs)

Wednesday          7am – 10.30am (3.5hrs)

Thursday                7am – 10.30am (3.5hrs)

Friday                     7am – 10.30am (3.5hrs)

Saturday                10am – 1.30pm (3.5hrs)                                    1.00pm – 5pm  (4 hrs)

Sunday                    10am – 1.30pm (3.5hrs)                                    6pm – 10pm (4 hrs)

 

Night Shift (1 night per week)                                           10pm – 6am (8hrs)

 

Contingency Hours (2hrs) as and when required

 

 

Duties

You will be required to assist with personal care and assisting employer to start her day – running bath / breakfast / meal preparation for the day / accompany to hospital appointments / getting ready for bed / prompting with medication / prompting with appointments for following day etc.

 

You will be responsible to prompt / assist with medication, ensuring accurate records are kept at all times.

 

You will also assist with household tasks including tidying/ hoovering / cooking etc. You will accompany her to the hairdressers / gym / yoga / MS Club and on shopping trips (you must be able to lift & carry shopping). It is important that you are able to provide assistance to the employer to go swimming.

 

You may also be required to accompany the employer to attend university therefore must be willing to drive to Glasgow.

 

You must be a good cook as you will be required to assist with bulk preparation of healthy meals.

 

 

Experience / Qualifications Required

 

Experience of supporting adults with Relapsing/Remitting Multiple Sclerosis & relevant training desirable as well as a willingness to attend ongoing MS Awareness Training (sourced by Employer).  Moving & Assisting training required (can be provided).  Food Hygiene certificate would be advantageous.

 

IMPORTANT:  You must have a current clean driving licence, as you will be required to drive employers disability car.

Qualities

This vacancy would be suitable to someone with a mature outlook who is organised, consistent and can work on their own initiative.  You must have patience and be willing to support the lady when she has a relapse (which can vary from mild to severe) along with the support of her family and health care professionals.

This position is subject to a 6 month probationary period.
